Keyword Equalizer launches
I just finished testing Jeff Alderson's Keyword Equalizer and I must say that I'm enjoying it.
Let me tell you first off what Keyword Equalizer is not.
It's not a tool like Ad Word Analyzer or Keyword Analyzer that you use for your PPC campaigns – Keyword Equalizer is not for Google AdWords or your Overture account.
Keyword Equalizer is also not the right tool for you if you want very detailed information about the number of competing pages for any given keyword - or the number of inbound links.
But what Keyword Equalizer lack in detailed output it makes up for in the way it filters the raw search engine data before presenting it to you.
You see, there are basically two different parameters that determine if a keyword is worth targeting.
The first thing is how popular it is - that is: How many people are searching for this keyword.
The second thing is competition - that is: How many other pages out there shows up when you search for the keyword in one of the major search engines.
With Keyword Equalizer you basically set the thresholds for each of these variables before running the query.
Keyword Equalizer will then disregard any keywords that too few people are searching for and it will disregard any keywords where the competition is too fierce.
And it also adds a third variable that you can tweak.
Because with Keyword Equalizer you also have the ability to filter keywords based on PageRank. PageRank begin to matter when your niche deals with highly competitive keywords.
So with Keyword Equalizer you can set a threshold that throws away keywords where the top competitive pages have a PageRank above the threshold.
The way this threshold works is by looking for the highest PageRank reported by the top 10 results for the keyword in Google.
I have briefly tested Keyword Equalizer and the first impression is that it has a very clean interface.
You get your initial keywords from two different sources - either you post-process WordTracker reports or you simply enter a seed keyword and let Keyword Equalizer fetch the popularity figures from the Overture Search Term Suggestion Tool.
After you load the keywords you set the thresholds for minimum number of searches, maximum PR and maximum competing pages.
What Keyword Equalizer then does is first fetch data from the search engines.
If you load up a WordTracker report, then the minimum searches will be taken from there and if you just enter a keyword and let Keyword Equalizer fetch the data from Overture, then the minimum of searches is evaluated against the Overture data.
Then it automatically prunes the resulting keyword list so you stay within the thresholds you set - and finally it ranks the profitability of the keywords relative to each other.
